If you prefer not to snorkel, there is plenty of time to take a relaxing stroll on the pristine beach or have a relaxing swim in the shallow waters. About 14km north-east of Port Stephens, Broughton Island is a part of Myall Lakes National Park. The tranquillity of the island is a far cry from the hustle and bustle of Nelson Bay town. Enjoy a scenic cruise out to the island before anchoring at picturesque Providence Beach or Esmeralda Cove for a snorkel in the clear and protected waters, ideal for families and kids. Broughton Island is home to abundant marine species, making the snorkelling pretty exceptional. If the underwater world isn't your thing, sit back, relax and enjoy some 'me time'. The dolphins surrounding the island are playful, curious and interactive so keep your eyes peeled. The region of Port Stephens is a premium destination for dolphin watching with up to 200 of them thought to be living permanently in the various bays.
