More info

Looking for a fun and exciting adventure during the next NT school holidays? Florence Falls & Litchfield swimming holes are some of the most amazing Australian waterfalls to visit with kids.

It's about a 2-hour drive from Darwin to Florence Falls in Litchfield park via National Highway 1 and B30 to Buley Florence Road.

The 9.8 - 15 m / 32 - 49 ft Florence Falls, NT, flow all year round is the most stunning during the wet season and the dry season start.

There are several holes for a swim at Florence Falls, Australia, in Litchfield park:

  • Florence Falls has a large plunge pool
  • Swimming is also allowed at Florence Creek at the top of the falls
  • Buley Rockhole is on the same road as Florence Falls.

Being one of few Litchfield National Park waterfalls, this hidden gem offers a variety of Litchfield park adventures for families to enjoy:

  • Florence Falls walk to the viewpoint is an easy-graded 120 m walk. To get to the bottom of the falls, you can either go down 160 stairs (which could be hard for little children and is not pram-accessible) or take the 1 km monsoon Florence Falls hike with just a few steps.
  • On your way, you'll be surrounded by the lush greenery of the beautiful sub-tropical forest and the sound of cascading waters and the crystal-clear waterhole below.
  • Florence Falls waterhole is a great spot for a swim as it's crocodile free, making it a perfect spot to escape the heat!
  • Bring your goggles to swim under the waterfall and watch fish swimming around.

Here are a few safety rules:

  • Sometimes swimming could be prohibited due to seasonal weather conditions, so check if Litchfield park is open before going there.
  • Supervise your kids closely, as the rocks could be slippery.
  • Jumping from the high rocks is prohibited.
