Manly Beach is patrolled all year round but it's still important to stay safe. Here are some safety tips to keep in mind:

  • Only swim between the red and yellow flags
  • Read all the safety signs
  • Wear sunscreen and a hat, stay in the shade and stay hydrated
  • Swim with a friend or a family member in case of an emergency
  • Do not enter the water if drinking alcohol or under the influence of drugs
  • You can ask a lifeguard or beach patrol for safety advice
  • If you need help, stay calm and attract attention by raising an arm above your head
  • For an emergency dial Triple Zero (000) as soon as possible

Active water sports

If you want to get active, you can try some fun water sports at Manly's ocean side surfing beaches and coves, such as

  • Windsurfing
  • Parasailing
  • Scuba diving
  • Snorkelling

Are dogs allowed in Manly Beach?

Unfortunately dogs are not allowed on the main Manly Beach, where the swimming zone is. However, there are dog friendly beach areas, like at the end of the main beach in Manly Lagoon, where dogs are allowed off leash 24 hours a day. You can also walk your dog on a leash on the promenade near the beach.

There can be signs that restrict dogs in certain areas of Manly Beach so do read these to avoid a fine!
