Gibraltar Falls is one of the best free things to do near Canberra for families.
Located near Namadgi National Park, this 67–120 m / 220–394 ft natural wonder is about a 45-minute drive from the Canberra CBD.
The Gibraltar Falls walk is a short 50 - 100 m trail mostly uphills, from the carpark to the viewing platform from where you see the lovely falls up close.
With crystal clear, cool water cascading down the rocks and a small pool at the top of the falls, Gibraltar Waterfall is a great family-friendly spot near Canberra! So take your kids there during the ACT school holidays to explore the natural beauty of this area.
Please note that there are quite a few rock steps down and up along the Gibraltar Falls hike, so if you have little kids or limited mobility issues, the hike is somewhat accessible.
There is another relatively easy 3 km (1 hour) hiking trail available - Gibraltar Falls Walking Track, from Gibraltar waterfall to Woods Reserve.

Facilities at Gibraltar Falls, ACT:
Free parking with a few car park spaces available right near the entrance of the falls. Alternatively, you can use the Woods Reserve car park.
Toilets
Excellent BBQ facilities, including gas BBQs, picnic shelter and picnic tables
The nearby Woods Reserve Camping Grounds are available for overnight camping.
Please note that there is no drinking water at the falls, so bring your own.

Gibraltar Falls Swimming
There is a small pool at the top of the waterfall with no handrails or barriers, so be careful.
Gibraltar Falls Dogs
Dogs are not allowed at Gibraltar Falls and nearby Woods Reserve.
Gibraltar Falls Camping
Camping or fires are prohibited at Gibraltar Falls. Alternatively, you can stay overnight at Woods Reserve Campgrounds.
