Boroondara Writing Competition
Get creative in this open theme short story and poetry writing competition to win cash prizes!

Description
Boroondara's Literary Awards are 2 writing competitions, one for young people and one open age category.
Young Writing Competition
Submit prose or poetry on any topic, within one of these categories:
- Junior category for kids in years 5 and 6 - between 300-500 words and less than 100 lines of poetry
- Middle category for kids in years 7, 8 and 9 - between 500-900 words and less than 200 lines of poetry
- Senior category for teens in years 10,11 and 12, or young people not in school from 15 to 18 years old - between 900- 1300 words and less than 200 lines of poetry
Prizes
The total prize pool is $5000. There will be 3 winners in each category, for both prose and poetry.
Open Short Story Competition
Any Australian resident can enter a fiction short story following these guidelines:
- Between 1500 - 3000 words
Prizes
- First place - $1500
- Second place - $1000
- Third place - $500
- Keith Carroll Award (given to the best entry from a Boroondara resident) - $500
Terms & Conditions
The deadline for submission is Friday 29 July 2022.
The Young Writing Competition is open to residents of Boroondara only.
The Open Short Story Competition is open to all Australian residents.
All entries must be:
- previously unpublished
- original work of the entrant
- submitted via the online form
- not a past prize-winning work
- not offensive or inappropriate
- within the word limit for the chosen category
