When it comes to one of the major events Canberra offers for families, the Lantern Festival in the Beijing Garden is a must-see for everyone!
On February 4, 2023, the Australia China Friendship Society ACT Branch organised the Lantern Festival in the Beijing Garden featuring traditions, music and dance.
๐ฎ Fun fact # 1: The Lantern Festival is a traditional Chinese festival that marks the end of the Chinese New Year celebrations. The festival activities feature the display and release of lanterns, solving lantern riddles, eating dumplings, and other fun activities. It is a fantastic family event to get together and celebrate the end of the Chinese New Year with food, fun, music and light.
Families came and joined the fun to celebrate the Lantern Festival at the beautiful Beijing Garden by Lake in Canberra, Australia!
๐ฎ Fun fact # 2: The Lantern Festival lasts one day, falling on the 15th day of the first lunar month (February or March).
There was live entertainment from talented traditional music and dance performers and a stunning lantern show.
๐ฎ Fun fact # 3: The biggest Lantern Festival is held in a few places around the world: Taipei, Taiwan (The Taipei Lantern Festival); Pingxi, Taiwan (The Pingxi Sky Lantern Festival); Beijing, Shanghai, and Guangzhou in China; and Los Angeles, California, USA (The Los Angeles Lantern Festival).
Kids shined as they held their lanterns and experienced the joy of this special celebration.
๐ฎ Fun fact # 4: The Lantern Festival is a public holiday in China, so businesses and schools may be closed for the day so families can celebrate.
