Vehicles

  • Interislander may reassess at check in the classification (type, width, length or weight) of any vehicle, and changes may be made to the fare charged. Any increase in fare must be paid before the vehicle is loaded.
  • Vehicles will not be carried unless accompanied by a driver. Trailers or caravans will not be carried unless towed by another vehicle.
  • Carriage of a vehicle may be refused if Interislander considers it to be insecurely loaded, or otherwise unsafe for carriage.
  • Please note if you are booking a vehicle onto the Interislander, passengers must be booked and paid for additionally.

Luggage

Hand Baggage

  • Small hand baggage can be taken onboard our vessels as personal hand luggage
  • Coin operated lockers are available onboard for the storage of these small items.

Checked-in Baggage

  • Larger baggage, including backpacks, must be checked in at the Wellington or Picton terminals. Baggage can then be collected from the carousels at the port of arrival
  • We will not accept individual baggage items which exceed either 32 kilograms in weight, or 200 linear centimetres (height and length and width) in dimension. For safety reasons, there are no exceptions to the weight restriction. However, the restriction in dimension is relaxed for sporting equipment (refer below)
  • The luggage allowance is two (2) items of baggage per person. Additional baggage items may be carried, subject to availability and on the payment of an additional charge
  • Special baggage arrangements for groups can be made at the terminals prior to departure. Please enquire at the baggage check-in area

Excess Luggage Charges

  • Additional items (subject to weight and size restrictions) will be carried, subject to availability, at a cost of $5 per item
  • Due to safety reasons, we can not accept oversized (exceeding 200 linear centimetres height length width in dimension) or overweight (exceeding 32 kilograms) baggage

Sporting equipment and bicycles

  • Sporting equipment, such as surfboards, golf clubs, canoes and bicycles, can be carried on our vessels, at an additional cost of $15 per item

Car Parking

Wellington

  • In Wellington, short-term parking of up to 30 minutes is available, free of charge. Please note, though, that space is limited and in great demand, especially during peak times
  • Limited long-term Pay and Display parking is also available, at a cost of $10 per calendar day (or part thereof). Long-term parks cannot be pre-booked; if you are travelling at peak times, such as during school holidays, Easter or Christmas, please do not rely on being able to use the long-term parking facilities
  • Two Pay and Display vending machines are located centrally in the car park. The machines accept coins and credit cards only. Place the parking ticket face up on the vehicle dashboard. Parking is at the owners' risk
  • When using the long-term parking facility, please allow extra time to check in

Picton

  • Port Marlborough provides 60 minute car parking near the Picton terminal entrance, free of charge. Please observe the well sign-posted parking limits
  • A number of longer-term parking options are also available.
  • Long(er)-term parking is available approximately 200 metres from the terminal (near the Old Railway Station). This is Pay and Display and costs $1 per hour, or $6 per day * The pay and display machine is located in the main long-term car park. Port Marlborough have also allowed part of the 60 minute car park to be used as long-term overflow when the main long-term park is full, but you must have a pay and display ticket. Coins for the pay and display machine can be obtained from the Interislander Ticket Counter

Kids Club

  • Travelling on the Cook Strait ferries is more fun for the youngsters when they join our new Pelorus Kids' Club for children aged 12 years and under
  • Membership is free, and when children join up they get a membership card, a story letter from club characters and $5 Pelorus Money, which can be spent onboard
  • Make sure you have your membership card handy to get other neat stuff like:
  • A free drink and Jaffas when you purchase a movie ticket and swipe your card
  • $1Pelorus Dollar for each $10 spent onboard when your card is scanned. (This will accumulate and Pelorus money will be sent to you on your birthday each year, or on request.)
  • Arrangements can be made with an onboard supervisor to visit the Captain on the bridge, (subject to conditions and availability)

Additional Information

  • The Kaitaki vessel sailings connect with the KiwiRail Coastal Pacific train. Luggage transfers are available
  • Disabled toilets are available in the departure terminal
  • Interislander ship offers onboard Wi-Fi so you can connect to the internet using Wi-Fi enabled laptops, iPads, iPod Touch, smart phones, and many other devices (Purchase credit on board)
  • Current release movies are screened in a state-of-the-art cinema
  • Onboard shops make available a selection of newspapers, gifts, and other holiday items, such as films and postcards
  • The ships also offer a wide range of food and beverages, to satisfy the most discerning appetite
  • Onboard entertainment is also varied, for the amusement of young and old. Clowns and magicians perform for children during the busy summer months, while many New Zealand bands "play for their supper", proudly supported by Interislander

Terms

  • Infants (under 2 years of age) travel free of charge
  • Children (between 2 and 17 years of age) travel at a reduced fare
  • Interislander may reassess at check-in the classification of a passenger type (child, infant, senior or tertiary student). An increase in fare will be required where suitable identification cannot be provided
  • Children (under 15 years of age) must be accompanied by an adult
