Spread over separate locations the Queen Victoria Museum and Art Gallery are two must-see sites when in the Launceston region. The Art Gallery, located on Wellington Street displays a range of colonial paintings and decorative arts. The gallery features both temporary and permanent exhibitions, and is an ideal destination for those looking to enjoy and admire the diversity of the gallery’s fine art and design collections, which over the years have shaped the city’s heritage and culture.

The Museum, located on the Inveresk site houses the preserved railway workshops as well as the Tasmanian Connections exhibit. This permanent exhibition showcases a range of stories from the social history and natural science collections in the museum spread over six different installations. Another permanent exhibition, Sydney Cove, displays Australia’s oldest merchant shipwreck while other displays provide visitors with dinosaur, death mask and plane exhibits. The Inveresk site is also home to the Planetarium, with an operating star projector displaying feature presentations and giving visitors the chance to experience the thrill of truly exploring these stars and constellations.
